SKYWARN
SKYWARN is a National Weather Service (NWS) volunteer program where trained citizens act as "eyes and ears" on the ground, providing crucial, real-time, "ground-truth" information on hazardous weather events to local NWS offices. Spotters report phenomena like hail, tornadoes, and flooding, which, combined with radar and satellite data, help meteorologists issue more timely and accurate warnings to save lives and property. Pass along your severe weather reports during our SKYWARN nets on the K3CAL Linked Repeater System.
NVIS DAY
NVIS Day is an annual event, for amateur radio enthusiasts to test and build Near-Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS) antenna systems for reliable short to medium-distance communication. Participants set up temporary stations and aim to contact other stations within their region, often to practice for disaster communication scenarios when infrastructure is down. The event encourages learning and collaboration, focusing on the practical application of NVIS technology for emergency communications and other reliable communication needs.
