What is Amateur Radio ?
Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space with astronauts aboard the International Space Station, all without the Internet or cell phones. It's fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need.
What is GMRS ?
GMRS stands for General Mobile Radio Service, a licensed radio service regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that allows individuals and their families to engage in local two-way voice and limited data communications using handheld, mobile radios, and repeater stations. An FCC license is required to operate a GMRS radio, which covers the entire immediate family and lasts for 10 years. GMRS radios are more powerful than Family Radio Service (FRS) radios and can use repeater systems for extended range
We Could Use Your Help!
CARA members have assembled and programmed the equipment to install a GMRS repeater at a commercial tower site in Prince Frederick. All that is left to do is install the antennas on the tower, 200 feet above the ground. CARA is currently raising the funds that are needed to pay the commercial tower climbers for the install. Please help us support the local community, make a donation today. Thank you!
Let's Stay In Touch.
