One License Covers the Whole Family
Any individual who holds an individual license may allow his or her immediate family members to operate his or her GMRS station or stations. Immediate family members are the licensee's spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, parents, grandparents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Perfect For Local Communications
GMRS is not the world wide radio communications of Amateur Radio, but it is perfect for local radio communications. Offering more coverage area than Citizen Band (CB) radio or Family Radio Service (FRS) radios. The added benefit of using GMRS repeaters to extend the radio's range, makes GMRS ideal for Camping, Hunting, Fishing or any family disaster/emergency communications plan.
All you'll need is a License, No Test To Pass.
No Test Required: The license does not involve a test. To get a GMRS license, go to the FCC website, register for an FCC Registration Number (FRN) through the Commission Registration System (CORES) if you don't already have one, and then log into the Universal Licensing System (ULS) with your FRN to complete the online application. The license costs $35 for a 10-year term, and is valid for your immediate family.
